Marrakech to Merzouga: 3 days over the High Atlas and through the gorges
The Tizi n’Tichka pass, the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and a night in the dunes.
Day 1. Pick-up at your hotel or riad. Climb into the High Atlas through Berber villages to the Tizi n’Tichka pass, then explore Aït Ben Haddou on foot. In the afternoon, the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of Roses take you to the Dades for the night.
Day 2. The Dades Gorge, then the Todra Gorge and its 300-metre walls. Lunch in Tinghir, then Merzouga: a sunset camel ride into Erg Chebbi, sandboarding and dinner under the stars.
Day 3. Sunrise over the dunes, then back via Alnif, N’Kob, the Draa Valley and the High Atlas. Arrival in Marrakech in the evening.

Day 1 · Marrakech → Aït Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
Morning pick-up at your hotel or riad. The road climbs into the High Atlas, through Berber villages and terraced valleys, up to the Tizi n’Tichka pass. On the other side, stop at Aït Ben Haddou and explore the old fortified village on foot.
After lunch, continue past Ouarzazate along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of Roses, and arrive in the Dades Valley for dinner and the night.
Day 2 · Dades Gorge → Todra Gorge → Merzouga
Start with the hairpin bends of the Dades Gorge, then walk between the 300-metre walls of the Todra Gorge. After lunch in Tinghir, cross palm groves and desert plains via Erfoud to Merzouga.
In the late afternoon, climb on your camel and ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes as the sun goes down. Try sandboarding, then enjoy dinner at the camp under the stars.
Day 3 · Merzouga → Draa Valley → Marrakech
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, then have breakfast at the camp. The long road back goes through Alnif, the kasbah village of N’Kob and the palm groves of the Draa Valley.
After Ouarzazate, cross the High Atlas once more and arrive at your hotel or riad in Marrakech in the evening.

Good to know
- 🎒 What to bring: comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, a scarf against wind and sand, a warm layer and a small overnight bag for the camp.
- 🌙 Desert nights are cold – from November to March it can drop close to 0 °C at night, so pack a warm jacket.
- ☀️ Best seasons: March to May and September to November. In summer the desert is very hot (often over 40 °C); winter brings sunny days and chilly nights.
- 🚐 Long driving days – southern Morocco is vast. Driving times include photo and rest stops, and your driver-guide adapts the pace to you.
- 🕌 Riad in the Medina? Cars can’t enter the narrow lanes, so your driver meets you at the nearest drop-off point.
- 🥗 Food: vegetarian or another diet? Just tell us when you book.

Is the price per person?
Yes. Prices are per person and get lower as your group grows. For example, 4 travellers pay €210 each, so €840 in total.
Will we share the van with other travellers?
No. This is a private tour: the van, the driver-guide and the itinerary are just for your group.
Is a guide included?
Yes. Your English- or French-speaking driver-guide stays with you for the whole tour, tells you about the places you visit and helps with everything on the way. At big sites such as Aït Ben Haddou you can also hire a licensed local guide on the spot (optional, paid locally).
What is the desert camp like?
You sleep in a private tent with proper beds and your own bathroom. Dinner is served at the camp, and on clear nights the sky is full of stars. Electricity and Wi-Fi can be limited.
Can we change the itinerary or add a night?
Of course – it’s your private tour. Tell us what you’d like (an extra night, a slower pace, another start or end point) and we’ll send you a price on WhatsApp.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes, families are welcome. The days include long drives, so we take regular breaks. Tell us the children’s ages when you book.
